Dev Skylar is a fashion designer specialising in bridal wear, currently based in Amsterdam. Originally from Curaçao and raised in St. Maarten, she embodies a creative path shaped by both nature and nurture. Her grandmother, a seamstress and designer, passed down an artistic perspective and need for creating, while her parents recognised her talents early on, placing her in programs and classes that honed her skills from childhood. This perfect balance of inheritance and guidance has shaped Dev into a designer whose work is both instinctual and deeply refined.

Her designs are soft, expressive, and grounded in her desire to reframe how Black women are represented in Western bridal fashion. Too often whitewashed or overlooked, their presence and beauty form the core inspiration behind her practice. For Dev, bridal wear should never demand a compromise between elegance and comfort; it should be an intimate act of honouring individuality, allowing the wearer to feel like themselves.

Before dedicating herself fully to bridal, Dev embraced a multihyphenate creative journey, exploring photography, painting, graphic design, and brand design. These experiences gave her a better understanding of visual culture and collaboration, reshaping the way she approaches fashion.

Today, she sees design not only as the making of garments, but as a dialogue between art, heritage, and humanity, transforming bridal wear into a personal and universal expression at once.
